Our Story
Rooted Owl® was founded by Karan S. Madan with a vision to create evidence based pet supplements inspired by nature and validated by modern science. Growing up in the Himalayan foothills of India, Karan witnessed the benefits of natural nutrition and botanical wellness firsthand. Years later, while searching for safe, science backed solutions for his own Golden Retriever, Zara, he realized there was a need for premium, condition specific supplements developed specifically for pets. Today, Rooted Owl® combines clinically studied ingredients, veterinary expertise, and uncompromising quality to create products pet parents can trust and veterinarians can confidently recommend.

Dr. Melanie Piñeyrúa is a veterinarian and Director of URGENCIAS CIVET in Uruguay. Her work is primarily focused on emergency medicine, critical care, and small animal surgery.
Passionate about veterinary medicine and lifelong learning, Dr. Piñeyrúa has a special interest in innovation and technology, as well as in advancing diagnostic and treatment tools that help improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
Dr. Barbara Royal
Dr. Barbara Royal is a renowned integrative veterinarian, IVAS certified acupuncturist, author, and educator with decades of experience in companion animal, wildlife, and exotic animal care. A pioneer in holistic veterinary medicine, she combines conventional and integrative therapies to advance pet wellness. She is the author of The Royal Treatment, has appeared in the documentary Pet Fooled, and is widely recognized as Oprah Winfrey's trusted veterinarian.
Dr. Claudia Della

Dr. Della Cella holds a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and Technology and is an Assistant Professor at the School of Veterinary Medicine (Universidad de la República - Uruguay), where she teaches postgraduate specializations. She heads the Gastroenterology Clinic at UdelaR’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital, contributes to veterinary literature as a co-author of key texts, and serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Small Animal Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Della Cella is a visiting lecturer in Bolivia, leading the Gastroenterology module for a Master's program.

As a Certified Veterinary Technician with over 11 years of experience, I have honed my skills in general practice, dermatology, and physical rehabilitation. My passion for animal health has led me to enrich my understanding of nutrition and canine rehabilitation, where I focus on implementing individualized care plans that promote optimal well-being for pets. I am also a Certified Canine Veterinary Rehabilitation Nurse which enables me to support dogs along the road to recovery from injury or in maintaining comfort and quality of life as they age. Dedicated to ongoing education and empathetic care, I aim to improve the well-being of both pets and their owners.
Dr. Trina Hazzah, DVM, DACVIM, CVCH
Initial Formulation Consultant
Dr. Trina Hazzah was the Initial Formulation Consultant of Animal & Plant Sciences, bringing over 11 years of experience as a veterinary oncologist and more than 5 years as a veterinary integrative oncologist. A graduate of Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine, she is also the president and co-founder of the Veterinary Cannabis Society, the first U.S.-based non-profit focused on raising awareness of cannabis as medicine for pets. Additionally, Trina is a member of the Society of Cannabis Clinicians, Canadian Association of Veterinary Cannabinoid Medicine, Veterinary Cancer Society, American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association and California Veterinary Medical Association.
